This event was a historical moment that revealed the contradictions, violence, and ideals at the heart of the American nation. Using this story as a starting point, Potter explores belief, sacrifice, and the unresolved tensions that continue to linger in American society. Stepping into a raw, American sound world shaped by blues, folk, harmonies reminiscent of Aaron Copland, and the driving force of rhythms that permeate American history, this ensemble aims to create a rich, individual sound like a "small town band," despite its limited instrumentation. The lineup consists of guitar, bass, drums, violin, clarinet, and trombone. Bill Frisell's guitar plays the emotional heart of the music, embodying the texture and warmth that Potter envisioned when composing.
