In such a society, Voice of Bacheptoulo (VOB) rises up, armed with metal as a form of "struggle"! In 2014, three teenage girls?Firda Marsya Kurnia (vocals, guitar), Widi Rahmawati (bass), and Euis Siti Aisyah (drums)?formed a band in Singajaya, a small village on the outskirts of Garut, West Java, influenced by bands like System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, and Metallica. Initially playing cover songs, they quickly rose to prominence with their original sound. Their extreme sound, exceptional technique, powerful lyrics mixing English and Sundanese, and visual style featuring hijabs have garnered attention on social media, creating a wave of excitement in the global metal scene. Having officially debuted in 2018 with the single "School Revolution," they steadily climbed the ladder towards world domination, including a conversation with Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine in 2021, an appearance at Wacken Open Air, Germany's largest metal festival, in 2022, and their first North American tour in 2023. VOB's first full-length album, "RETAS," is the culmination of their 10-year journey and a prelude to a new battle. Heavy riffs, bone-crushing grooves, and earth-shaking rhythms carry their raw message. "What's the Holy (Nobel) Today?" is an anti-war song urging "STOP WAR!", and "PMS" refers to "Perempuan Merdeka Seutuhnya = Completely Free Woman." In "The Enemy of Earth Is You," they confront the listener with a pessimistic perspective that "humans are the enemy of the Earth," while "(Not) Public Property" is a protest song against the sexual exploitation of women. Although they are sometimes viewed with hostility by some conservative groups in their local area, in "God, Arrau Me (Please) to Play Music," they assert, "I am neither a criminal nor an enemy.
