Unlike A Certain Ratio, which had overlapping members, Swamp Children pursued a direction strongly influenced by Latin, Brazilian music, and jazz, and quickly established their own identity. Their only album, "So Hot," released on Factory Records in 1982, was critically acclaimed by the media. Centered around the lustrous vocals of their sole female vocalist, Ann Quigley, their sound, which has been described as both new wave jazz and jazzy new wave, is uniquely and pleasantly appealing. In addition to all 5 tracks from their two 12-inch singles, this release includes a total of 6 additional tracks, including "Flesh," which was contributed to a Crepuscule compilation. Keri Evans, who later joined Brand New Heavies and subsequently remixed tracks by Craig David and Mary J. Blige, was also a member.
