Introduction Bluey, the leader of Incognito and a working hard man who says, "I have 12 projects lined up," returns with his second solo album following the success of "Leap of Faith" ('13)! Incognito's latest album, "Amplified Soul" ('14), which amplified the band's soul to the highest level, reached number one on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart. As this summer's Japan tour was a resounding success with sold-out shows everywhere, Bluey, the leader, already had his next project in mind: "When I get back to England, I'll start working on my second solo album in between shows and finish it by the end of the year." In fact, as soon as he returned, a newcomer visited Bluey in London to have his album produced, and in addition, Bluey had a packed autumn work schedule with a fusion heavyweight, a European vocalist, and three projects around him, including his solo work, plus a tour. But as promised, his solo album was almost complete as soon as 2015 began! The photos were shot by Marco Graviano, a master who has photographed numerous supermodels and jazz giants, and his "manly" "dandyism" has been further refined. Even without detailed credits for the album, it is clear from the sound that, as with his previous work, the songwriting will be centered around Richard Bull, with whom he has known each other inside and out for nearly 30 years. "Hold On," which was probably produced with someone like Ski Oakenful, like "Ain't Nobody's Business But My Own" from his previous work, has a low center of gravity in the bass and spatial treble sounds, and is the epitome of the deep house trend in Europe and America. The album's title track, which follows, is a strong contender for the album's lead single, with a groovy bassline reminiscent of MFSB's "Mysteries Of The World" and magnificent strings reminiscent of the group's early work. "Saints And Sinners" features a beat construction that is typical of the post-Glasper era, with upper registers that sound like the clean, R&B style of a house producer. The killer content aspect of this album is the strengthened Latin influences from a jazz perspective! The mambo-influenced "Trippin' On This Feelin'" and the Latin jazz-influenced "Columbus Avenue" create sophisticated dance music. Bluey knows that in the early days of the acid jazz scene, people would dance to these kinds of songs, dressed in suits and ties. So, while it might be a bit too much for kids to enjoy without stretching, for adults who appreciate playfulness and flexibility, this is an album that's easy to play on repeat, even more so than Incognito!
