Biography Born in 1957 in Tideswell, Derbyshire, known for its windswept limestone landscape, Nigel Ayers began his artistic career in the late 1970s with the experimental band "The Pump." He later co-founded the influential label "Sterile Records" with Caroline K, which became a hub for radical sound experiments and politically charged works. The label also handled works by artists such as John Balance (Coil), Maurizio Bianchi, and Lustmord. In 1980, Ayers formed "Nocturnal Emissions" with Caroline K and his brother Danny Ayers. They developed a versatile project that fused the destructive energy of punk with a critical spirit toward media culture, industrial sound, and conceptual art. Often discussed in relation to industrial music, Nocturnal Emissions has always refused categorization, constantly evolving around philosophical exploration and sonic transformation. Since the mid-1980s, Nigel Ayers has continued this project primarily as a solo artist, collaborating with diverse underground artists such as Mayuko Hino of Japan's C.C.C.C. and dancer Shiraishi Poppo, and creating live soundtracks with them in New York.
