Content Introduction The jazz/instrumental music scene in Minas Gerais, Brazil, has produced world-renowned masters such as Milton Nascimento and Toninho Horta, and in recent years, talents like Antonio Loureiro and Rafael Martini, who resonate with the global jazz scene. Among them, Davi Fonseca is said to be the next breakout star. After earning a bachelor's degree in composition from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, where Loureiro and others also graduated, he quickly made a unique presence in the indie scene of Belo Horizonte, the state capital. He has collaborated not only with local Minas musicians such as Rafael Martini, Alexandre Andres, and Luisa Brina, but also with leading Brazilian musicians, both old and new, including Elsa Soares, Letieres Leite, Monica Salmaso, Ruedi Luna, and Pedro Martins. In 2019, he released his first album, "Piramba". Fonseca's previous work, which combined complex compositions characteristic of Minas Gerais' new generation of musicians with universal melodies, garnered critical acclaim both in Brazil and internationally. In Japan, the imported CD achieved record-breaking sales, solidifying his name in the public's mind. This new album, his first in approximately five years, features 21 musicians active in Belo Horizonte, with each track recorded in a different arrangement.
