Recorded on October 20th at the Munich Olympia Hall in Germany during their 1977 European tour, 'Live in Munich 1977' is a complete video recording (with 2 CDs) featuring the classic lineup of Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, and Cozy Powell. Rainbow was formed in 1975 at the suggestion of legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore after his departure from Deep Purple. They quickly achieved success with a string of hit albums and continued until 1983 when Blackmore disbanded the group (and rejoined Deep Purple). The atmosphere that night, featuring a lineup of Blackmore, Cozy Powell (drums), Bob Daisley (bass), David Stone (keyboards), and Ronnie James Dio, was filled with excitement. This was partly due to Ritchie Blackmore's arrest on assault charges after the Vienna show just before the concert, followed by his release just before the show, which inspired both the band and the audience, leading to a breathtaking performance. From a live version of "Kill the King," which hadn't yet been released as a studio version at the time, to "Mistreated" from his Deep Purple days, to "Still I'm Sad," which transcended being just a Yardbirds cover and became a Rainbow classic, and the encore performance of "Do You Close Your Eyes," a spectacular stage unfolded. The DVD includes bonus features such as the original promo videos for "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll," "The Gates of Babylon," and "L.A. Connection," a photo gallery, a slideshow with audio commentary, interviews, and a "Rainbow Over Texas '76" special featuring additional interviews and performance footage.
