A masterpiece left behind by Eric Dolphy just four months before his death. "Hat and Beard," titled after Thelonious Monk's "hat and beard," is a famous song that draws the listener into a labyrinth with its eerie melody and complex rhythmic shifts. Tony Williams' sharp response to the roaring bass clarinet is incredible. This is the only album they have ever performed together. Freddie Hubbard and Bobby Hutcherson also give excellent performances.
