This concert, held four years after John Coltrane's untimely death, was a special gala concert held to support the Integral Yoga Institute, founded by Swami Satchidananda. Produced by Sid Bernstein, who produced the first Beatles concert in America, and featuring appearances by Laura Nyro and The Rascals, it became a legendary concert. Furthermore, this is Alice Coltrane's memorable first performance as a leader at Carnegie Hall, and the all-star group, featuring Pharaoh Sanders and Archie Shepp on saxophone, Jimmy Garrison and Cecil McBee on bass, Ed Blackwell and Clifford Jarvis on drums, and Kumar Kramer (harmonium) and Tulsi Reynolds (tambora) from Satchidananda's circle, delivers a captivating jazz ensemble. The audio, originally recorded in 4-channel, has been decoded to stereo for this release and mastered by Kevin Reeves. It includes Japanese translations of essays by Lauren Du Graff, who contributes to the New York Times and other publications, and Alice's producer, Ed Michel, as well as liner notes unique to Japan.
