Contents: [Jazz Department Store: Piano Edition] [SHM-CD] [New Mini Commentary] [First SHM-CD Release] This trio album was recorded by Paul Bley, later hailed as the "lyric poet of the piano," the year after his debut album. His early playing is in the Bud Powell-esque bebop style, with powerful single notes seamlessly connecting melodic phrases. The selection is mainly standards, but his own ballad "My Heart," which is very moving, is also excellent.
