"BLUE GIANT" (original story by Shinichi Ishizuka), a jazz manga that has sold over 9 million copies since its serialization began in 2013, is finally being made into a theatrical film (released nationwide on February 17, 2023). "BLUE GIANT" has been highly praised with numerous word-of-mouth comments calling it "a manga where you can hear the music," and the music in the film is handled by pianist Hiromi Uehara. Original songs (FIRST NOTE, N.E.W., WE WILL) and the end credits song (BLUE GIANT) for the trio "JASS" formed by the protagonist, Dai Miyamoto, were also written specifically for this film. The saxophone for Dai Miyamoto, who aims to be the world's best jazz player, is played by Tomoaki Baba, who was unanimously selected in an audition of leading musicians both domestically and internationally. The drumming by Shunji Tamada, who was a high school classmate of Dai (who hails from Sendai), is handled by Shun Ishiwaka, a member of millennium parade, who joined at Hiromi Uehara's request. The piano playing by Yuki Sawabe, a pianist Dai met in Tokyo, is handled by Hiromi Uehara. Top musicians from the classical and jazz worlds, including the string section members of "Hiromi Uehara The Piano Quintet," also participated in the recording of the film's score and band performances.
