These three completely different works are connected not only by the instrument of the violin, but also by the idea that each composer maintained some kind of musical and geographical connection despite being away from their homeland for a long time. Dvo??k of Czechoslovakia and Sarasate of Spain, who were active in the late 19th century, and Ginastera of Argentina in the mid-20th century, blended early musical influences with modern developments to create their own unique musical languages. Dvo??k and Sarasate were part of a major current of late Romantic musical nationalism, along with Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky of Russia, Grieg of Norway, and Sibelius of Finland.
