Contents: This recording features the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, a family-like orchestra with which Hilary Hahn has collaborated for many years in Paris. Hahn served as Artist-in-Residence for the orchestra, led by Principal Conductor Mikko Franck, from 2018-19, and this recording was a long-held desire of hers. Prokofiev's Concerto No. 1, composed between 1916 and 1917 and premiered in Paris in 1923, is one of Hilary Hahn's favorite concertos. It is one of the works she has performed most frequently, and she has been waiting for the right timing and collaborators for this recording. The premiere of Chausson's mystical and meditative "Po?me," by Ysa?e, took place in Paris. This is one of Chausson's masterpieces, dedicated to Ysa?e. Hilary Hahn's teacher, Jascha Brodsky, was Ysa?e's last student, and she feels a personal connection to this work as a part of her musical roots. Mikko Franck's first collaboration with Finnish composer Hilary Hahn, who passed away in 2016, was in 2013 when he commissioned and performed the piece "Whispers" for the album "27 Pieces: Hilary Hahn Encore." Mikko Franck was also a close friend of Rautavaara and an excellent performer who understood his work. In 2014, the two performed Rautavaara's Violin Concerto and decided to commission a new concerto for a Paris premiere, but Rautavaara's health deteriorated, and the work was changed to a serenade. After the composer's death, "Two Serenades" was discovered, with the orchestration of the second movement partially completed and the rest remaining as piano sketches. Kalevi Aho, a renowned composer and student of Rautavaara, completed the orchestration, and the world premiere took place in February 2019, followed by this world premiere recording.
