Backhaus's Beethoven is still listened to worldwide as a standard performance, even 50 years after the recording. Backhaus is an indispensable artist in the history of piano performance and recording, having made the world's first recording of a piano concerto for Deutsche Grammophon in 1909. Taking advantage of the large capacity of SA-CD, the recordings equivalent to 8 CDs are contained on 6 discs, and will be released as two 3-CD sets.
