Product Description
Jimi Hendrix's Monterey Festival 1967, completely recorded from a new master. All 9 tracks from Brian Jones' introduction to Wild Thing. Additional tracks from the 1967 Hamburg, Germany performance. June 18, 1967, the final day of the Monterey Pop Festival. The Jimi Hendrix Experience appeared after The Who, who destroyed their instruments, and delivered a shocking performance by setting a Stratocaster on fire. Jimi had debuted in the UK before his home country of America, knocking out British rock fans. At this festival, which was his triumphant return to his home country while still relatively unknown, the performance began with an introduction by Brian Jones of the Stones, but from Jimi's cutting guitar in the first song, "Killing Floor," to the addition of Noel Redding's bass and Mitch Mitchell's drums, a phenomenal, furious live performance unfolded. The festival audience must have been blown away in that moment. Furthermore, the performance continues with the feedback-laden "Foxy Lady," "Hey Joe," and "Rock Me Baby," before a sudden shift to the tranquil "Marie in the Wind," followed by "Purple Smoke," and finally, the astonishing "Wild Thing," in which the guitar is engulfed in flames. While there have been previous complete video versions missing only "Can You See Me" and CDs containing all the tracks, this release features the extended opening tuning, Brian Jones' introduction, and all nine tracks performed, all taken from the alternative master. The sound quality is also arguably the final version. As a bonus, five previously unreleased live tracks from a performance in Hamburg, Germany three months prior are included. Detailed Japanese liner notes detailing the circumstances, anecdotes, and track listings from that time are also included. From Eternal Grooves' "ROCK OFF" series! JASRAC-licensed product.
