Teaming up with Jack Nitzsche, they completed "Heart of Stone" at RCA Studios. This is the fifth volume of the epic project to collect all of the Rolling Stones' recordings. This fifth installment of the series, which has delivered all of their recordings chronologically from their pre-debut recordings, begins with a recording at Hollywood's RCA Studios on November 2, 1964, during their second US tour. The Stones had achieved success recording at the legendary Chess Studios in Chicago in the US. RCA Studios, where they entered with Jack Nitzsche, Phil Spector's right-hand man, proved to be an even better fit for the Stones, and it was here that they completed songs like "Heart of Stone" and "Pain in My Heart." In particular, "Heart of Stone," which was previously played by studio musicians such as Jimmy Page, is finished by the Stones themselves this time. A simple intro from G7 to C chord played by Keith. In a performance where they incorporated the previously unfamiliar 6/4 time signature into their groove, Mick's soulful vocals shone brightly, forming the foundation of the "Stones sound" that he and J. Nitzsche had discovered. On November 8th, they also recorded at Chess Studios. The rough-around-the-edges "Mercy, Mercy (Early vers)" was rejected and re-recorded later. In the re-recorded "Time Is on My Side (guitar intro)," Charlie finally mastered the 6/4 rhythm, and Keith's guitar intro was perfected, making it one of their signature songs. In January 1965, after the new year, they completed "The Last Time" at RCA Studios. This became the first Jagger & Richards original song to reach number one in the UK and number nine in the US, marking their growing success. Their live performances around the world were a huge success, even causing riots. This compilation covers all of the Stones' recordings from this period. This volume also includes three tracks featuring Brian May as a guest musician with Peter & Gordon at Abbey Road Studios. His fantastic blues harp playing is so good, you'd want a Brian May solo album just for that. You can also hear Jimmy Page's guitar solo on "All I Want Is My Baby," a song Keith Richards directed for Bobby Jameson.
