However, due to conflicts with early producer Shel Talmy and resulting confusion over copyrights and re-recordings, there are actually songs for which the official original masters have not been fully traced. Therefore, this work investigates, tracks down, and researches the original masters, and has been reconstructed from the mono masters. This is a collection of original master recordings of singles that is meticulously crafted. The album features "I'm the Faith," from The Who's predecessor band, The High Numbers, using the mono single recording that fades out nicely. The hit song "Substitute" was originally released as "Instant Party" on its B-side, "Circles," and its original master had never been released on CD until now, but it's included here. Other representative British rock hits such as "My Generation," "The Kids Are Alright," and "I'm a Boy" are also included in high quality from their original mono masters. Efforts have been made to faithfully reproduce the analog sound that is often lost due to excessive compression, a common problem with The Who's compilation greatest hits albums. The Who's emergency releases of Rolling Stones covers, "Under My Thumb" and "The Last Time," which were released during the height of the Rolling Stones' drug trial controversy to support the band, are also included from their single masters. This is a collection of singles that focuses on the analog texture and sound quality of authentic 1960s British rock, using the original masters.
