Product Description
High-quality recording of a BBC live performance from the Syd Barrett era! London '67. The dazzling world of a genius of unconventional psychedelia. Newly remastered and upgraded. This release features early Pink Floyd sessions at the BBC in the UK, featuring Syd Barrett, who pioneered the scene from UK psychedelia to progressive rock. In 1967 Britain, R&B, mod bands, and pop groups were at their peak. American psychedelia had crossed the ocean, and in Britain, live performances utilizing lighting shows were becoming a small boom, mainly in clubs. Suddenly, Pink Floyd, led by Syd Barrett, appeared. Based on R&B, their lyrics were full of trippy sensations, and their sound stimulated both hearing and sight. Their appearance was a major event in the rock scene. The previous release (EGRO-0036: same title), which contained a valuable BBC broadcast live performance by Pink Floyd from that period, was well-received by many fans and is now out of print. With the recent discovery of a new master recording, a reissue has been greenlit. Unlike some versions officially released in recent years, this is the original mono mix from the time of the broadcast. In addition, all 15 tracks have been remastered and supplemented with several tracks from the master recordings treasured by the late promoter, Jeff Harden. From the groundbreaking debut album "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" to iconic Syd Barrett tracks like "Astronomy Domine," the album also includes previously unreleased songs intended for the second album, reflecting the transitional period of 1967 when Syd's drug affliction was at play. "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun," a pioneering progressive rock song written by Richard Waters, is a must-listen. "Vegetable Man" is a rare 1967 live recording of a long-unreleased song, full of avant-garde pop sensibilities and showcasing the brilliance of Syd Barrett's madness. The bonus tracks include two rare recordings from pre-debut demo tapes (before Richard Wright's debut) recorded on acetate disc. Additionally, there are two tracks from a live performance in Stockholm, Sweden, featuring an over eight-minute improvisation of "Interstellar Overdrive." While the sound quality is that of a live recording, it's a valuable document from the Syd Rockes era.
