A chronological collection of studio work and session recordings. The 8th installment in the series. 149 days, the completion of the 'Sgt. Pepper's' sessions! [2nd Edition] Available now from Eternal Grooves in an affordable standard edition! The 8th installment of Eternal Grooves' Beatles session recording collection is a collection of sessions from the final stages of 'Sgt. Pepper's'. Recording, which began in November 1966, is finally reaching its climax. This CD opens with EMI Studios on March 3, 1967. You can immediately hear valuable recordings such as the basic track of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" with a brass section, overdubs of Paul playing Jimi Hendrix-esque electric guitar, and the original tape of the murmurs of the audience before a fictional concert begins. On March 9th, "Getting Better" features Paul playing the impressive electric piano, with John and George on electric guitar in take 1. Then there's Take 12, where Paul's bass comes in. Listening to the difference makes you realize just how important that bass was. "Good Morning, Good Morning" includes the powerful brass section overdubs from March 12th, and even the original recordings of the loop tapes of various animal sounds that were overdubbed on the 29th. "Within You Without You," where George seriously tried his hand at Indian music, is a rehearsal recording where George is teaching the musicians phrases by singing them. "She's Leaving Home" has a beautiful string track and a track with just Paul and John's vocals. "With a Little Help from My Friends" was written with Ringo's vocals in mind and was planned to connect as a medley to the second track on the album. There are interesting versions such as Takes 1 and 2 with a simple lineup of Paul on piano, John on cowbell, George on electric guitar, and Ringo on drums. On April 1st, the final day before Paul's departure for the US, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band/Reprise" was recorded. While it might seem like simply a faster-tempo version of the first track, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," the key, chord progression, and structure are actually completely different. Here too, the key was chosen with the intention of leading into the next track, "A Day in the Life," and the recording was based on a live performance, resulting in an even wilder sound. Then, on the 20th, after Paul's return to the US, "Only a Northern Song," which was ultimately not included, was recorded again. Despite some missteps, the album "Sgt. Pepper's" was completed. This is the ultimate collection of session recordings, tracing the production process of the historic work "Sgt. Pepper's" through sound. Includes Japanese liner notes detailing the circumstances, anecdotes, and track listings. Available as a standard edition from Eternal Grooves.
