From a pop band to rock, and then to hard rock... This collection features precious live recordings from 1967, a period of transformation, taken from broadcast live recordings. First up is the April 30, 1967 outdoor concert in Paris, France, whose full version was recently unearthed. The first track is their signature song, "Shapes of Things." You'll be surprised when the guitar riff backing the vocals starts halfway through the first verse and sounds like something straight out of Led Zeppelin. The live performance is also superb; as Page's guitar solo continues, the band gradually slows down, and just as the venue falls silent, the guitar intro to "Heartbreaking" suddenly rings out?it's like, "This is Led Zeppelin!" All seven tracks are included, with upgraded sound quality from the broadcast masters. The second live recording is from the Stockholm concert, famous among fans. Recorded from a transcription disc, it's highly regarded as a valuable recording capturing a live performance from the Page era. The live performance of "Little Games," which can be considered the inspiration for "Immigrant Song," is particularly precious. Even "I'm a Man," a song from his Clapton days, is transformed here by J. Page using the violin bow technique he would later become famous for with Led Zeppelin, creating an eerie bluesy feel full of psychedelic energy. The reprise of the "Over Under Sideways Down" phrase at the end is a typical Page touch. Thirdly, there's a performance from the famous German TV show "Beat Beat Beat." You can hear a precious live version from the "phantom decade" created during the short period when Beck and Page coexisted. Jeff Beck suddenly left the Yardbirds during the US tour the previous year, and J. Page had to shoulder the responsibility of being the backbone of the band. This is a collection of live recordings from that period when he poured in the musical ideas he had cultivated as a studio guitarist and brilliantly rebuilt the Yardbirds.
