Contents: The essence of Cuban music! A masterpiece by Septeto Nacional that condenses the charm of Son! According to the late Touyou Nakamura,
("Central and South American Music," August 1969 issue) Has there ever been another Cuban music album that has received such high praise? Septeto Nacional's "Son?s Cubanos," a representative masterpiece of "Son," the core music of Cuba, has been a favorite among avid Cuban music fans since the LP era, and for the first time in the world, it will be released on CD with its original album jacket. This album was made in 1962, when the world was shaken by the "Cuban Missile Crisis." This album was released as the first LP record on a state-owned label, named after the Sierra Maestra (Maestra Mountains), the base of Castro's revolution, as a pet project of the Cuban Ministry of Culture. Septeto Nacional was formed in 1927 with Ignacio Pinheiro as its leader, and remained a leading Son group until the late 1930s. As you know, Son is the origin of Cuban popular music and the root of later Mambo and Salsa, and this album is a revival of that era, created by a representative Son group while maintaining the golden age performance style. However, the resulting sound was not merely a return to tradition. Naturally, new sensibilities were incorporated, resulting in a musicality that possesses both the depth characteristic of music with a long tradition and a fresh, powerful sound. It is safe to say that this is the essence of Cuban music. As it is a reissue from Discolohia, it comes with the usual luxurious booklet full of detailed explanations and valuable photographs. In particular, this time I have written a lengthy commentary that delves deeply into the history of early Son, a subject previously unknown. Please enjoy the essence of Cuban music to the fullest.
