After Thin Lizzy disbanded, Phil Lynott formed a band with Lawrence Archer, and now, the GRAND SLAM's debut album is being released in Japan for the first time in a remastered edition! GRAND SLAM originated from Phil Lynott's (THIN LIZZY) solo tour band, formed in July 1983, and he is now a legend and an Irish hero. In its early days, members of THIN LIZZY at the time, such as John Sykes (guitar) and Brian Downey (drums), also participated. After THIN LIZZY finished their farewell tour in September 1983, Phil continued with GRAND SLAM. The lineup consisted of Phil, Lawrence Archer (ex-STAMPEDE/guitar), Mark Steinway (MAGNUM/keyboards), Robbie Brennan (drums), and Doish Nagle (guitar). They began performing live in April 1984, but Phil passed away suddenly in January 1986. Some of GRAND SLAM's original songs had already been released during Phil's lifetime, and the single "Nineteen" was Phil's last release before his death. "Military Man" was a collaboration between Gary Moore and Phil and was included on the single "Out In The Fields." "Dedication" was first included on a Thin Lizzy greatest hits album in 1991, but the label included it without the consent of Phil and Lawrence, who wrote the song, which caused controversy (they later reconciled). After joining UFO in the 1990s and spending some time in the film industry, Lawrence reunited the band in 2018 with original member Mark Stanway for a festival. This led to the addition of vocalist Mike Dyer, and they created their debut album with Dave Boyce (bass) and Benji Reed (drums). Mark did not become a full member, but participated in the album as a support keyboardist. In 2019, with Matt Terry as producer, this album was released (not released in Japan) featuring songs written by Phil, Lawrence, and Mark in the 80s, as well as new tracks. Now, the first album by GRAND SLAM, the one and only band that carries on the spirit of THIN LIZZY and Phil Lynott, is finally being released in Japan with remixes, remasters, and new artwork!
