Overmono, the leading force in UK bass music and dance music at the limit of speed, releases their new album 'PureDevotion' on XL RECORDINGS. Overmono, the brother duo of Ed Russell (Tessera) and Tom Russell (Truss), are at the forefront of UK bass, breakbeats, and techno. Following their debut album 'Good Lies' in 2023, which showcased their incredible talent, they release their second album 'PureDevotion' on XL RECORDINGS. "Pure Devotion," which began in 2024 as an attempt to boldly reconstruct Overmono's live sets, has since developed into a phenomenon. Closing the Glastonbury West Holts stage, a sold-out show at Alexandra Palace in London, headlining and curating at the Manchester Warehouse Project, and touring the US, Australia, and Japan. While many artists become exhausted after a tour, Overmono, on the contrary, entered the studio, his desire to create new music only intensified. He continued to produce music throughout the tour, releasing a string of collaborations with Joy Orbison, Hi-Contrast, Fred Again, Lil Yachty, Quengface, and The Streets, all of which have garnered immense popularity and support. "Pure Devotion," which shares its name with the live series, is Overmono's most ambitious project to date. It features beautiful imperfections, equipment malfunctions, and sounds born from chance moments. All of this is made possible by the unwavering confidence that Overmono has cultivated over many years at the forefront of underground electronic music, and who has since risen to become one of the leading dance music acts of the last decade. Across all 11 tracks, Overmono boldly expands upon recording techniques, incorporating experimental production methods such as 70s and 80s synthesizers, old train announcement speakers, and even actually baking crash cymbals in an oven. Every choice is imbued with strong will and physical sensation, a sensation that resonates with the renowned British poet John Joseph Holt, his close friend Kindra, and the emotionally charged vocals of Rasven of Paul Institute. This is "Lockup," the lead single from the album released today and premiered as BBC Radio 1's "Hottest Record." Inspired by Simon Reynolds' "Rip It Up and Start Again," the song represents Overmono's descent into a deeper exploration, fueled by the impulsive, rule-breaking spirit of the post-punk era, culminating in a sample of "What A Waste" by Birmingham cult band Fast Relief. The pounding beat and soul-stirring bassline envelop delicate and beautiful chords. This contrast is also visually represented by Doberman in a cinematic video directed and filmed by longtime collaborator Lolo Jackson. Brothers Tom and Ed Russell commented on the album: "With this album, we wanted to capture the essence of our studio space. We experimented with tons of ways to process, record, and reamp sounds. 'The vocals aren't quite right? Let's record them through an old loudspeaker in the basement.' 'This synth needs more bounce? Let's play it through a 1930s station announcement speaker.' We ran tape over magnets, smashed speakers, and finally put to use a cheap overclocking FX unit we got in Bromley years ago. We even baked cymbals in the oven with coffee grounds, potato chips, and vinegar?thanks to Sylvia Massey for that. We're also incredibly grateful to the amazing artists who worked with us?Lolo, John Holt, Kindra, and Rasven. This album wouldn't have been possible without their help, and we're truly honored that they participated." And a big thank you to all the artists whose work I sampled, all the studios where I recorded, and all the engineers who taught me so much during the process of creating this album. And an endless thank you to everyone who takes the time to listen. This album was made for you. With love, T&E x 01. Lockup 02. Knight In Shining Prada (feat. John Joseph Holt) 03. Slowmotion 04.
