The Smile, the band formed by Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner, releases their 3rd album, "Cutouts," on XL Recordings, showcasing their relentless creativity and artistry. Following their sensational debut in June 2022 with the groundbreaking 1st album "A Light for Attracting Attention," The Smile released their 2nd album, "Wall of Eyes," in January 2024, which was praised by Pitchfork as "the best album to date," and received rave reviews from media outlets such as The Needle Drop, Consequence, Brooklyn Vegan, Treblezine, and Spin, charting at number 3 on the UK Albums Chart. This 3rd album, "Cutouts," was released in October of the same year as the 2nd album. This album was recorded at Oxford and Abbey Road Studios around the same time as "Wall of Eyes," and features string arrangements by the London Contemporary Orchestra. The producer is Sam Petz Davies, who has previously worked on "Wall of Eyes," Thom Yorke's latest solo album "Confidenza," and Radiohead's "A Moon Shaped Pool," and the mastering was handled by Greg Calbi, who also worked on "Wall of Eyes." The album artwork was drawn by Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke during the recording sessions. Several tracks from "Cutouts" were premiered during The Smile's UK tour in March 2024, and despite their rapid production pace of releasing two albums in one year, their insatiable creativity and artistry explode, resulting in an album of extraordinary scale, truly befitting a supergroup.
