The album title is a neologism combining two words: pop art, an art movement themed on mass production and consumer society, and obligato (a musical term meaning accompaniment, and also meaning obligatory or compulsory). The album explores genres and sounds not seen in previous works, and despite its pop feel, it uncovers warnings about society and scathing thoughts about creation. It includes a different version of "Night Rule" by v_flower, which was previously released on video sharing sites. Bonus tracks include self-cover versions of "Night Rule" and "Doctorine."
