Product Description
More Eaze, the alias of Mari Rubio (who previously went by the name Mari Maurice), a Brooklyn-based composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist known as a longtime collaborator of Claire Rousey, has released her first solo album on Thrill Jockey Records. Of the 10 tracks on the original album, 8 feature her own vocals, making it the most pop-oriented and melodic work in More Eaze's history. Beyond mere pop songs, it showcases her unparalleled skills as a performer, composer, and arranger, with an electro-acoustic feel, interspersed with elements of traditional folk and country (which could be considered her roots), resulting in a sophisticated, simple, and gentle new kind of hyper-pop (perhaps even "post-hyper-pop"?). In particular, "healing attempt," the third single from the album released digitally on February 10th, reflects the influence of artists she loves but hasn't reflected in her previous works, such as Scritti Politti, The High Llamas, and The Sea and Cake (the self-remix of this song, included as a bonus track on the Japanese edition, is subtitled "fake scritti politti version"). Other tracks feature additional vocals and harmonies from the notable guitarist and singer-songwriter Wendy Eisenberg, who also plays guitar and piano on this album (she is also scheduled to release her self-titled album "Wendy Eisenberg," co-produced with more eaze and influenced by Judee Sill, Jimmy Webb, and Van Dyke Parks, on April 3rd via Joyful Noise Recordings). This is a fantastical, challenging, and exquisite collection of recording art, woven together by her captivating vocals, her beautiful electronic sounds, and the superb ensemble work of her and the participating musicians (who have collaborated on various projects). Ryan Sawyer, who has also participated in albums by TV On The Radio and At The Drive-In, plays drums. Mastering (of the main album) was handled by Stephan Mathieu (bonus tracks were mastered by Andrew Weathers, known for his work with Claire Rousay and others). ?? Lyrics and translations included only on the Japanese CD ?? 3 bonus tracks included only on the Japanese CD ?? Worldwide simultaneous release (March 20, 2026)
