Area 3 is an alias project by Canadian producer Dylan Khotin-Foote, based in Edmonton, and was launched to explore more meditative and introspective sounds in a different context from Khotin's dance music-focused work. As Khotin, he has released numerous works on labels such as Ghostly International and RVNG Intl., establishing an international reputation with his style that freely traverses the boundaries of ambient, house, new age, and electronic music. However, with Area 3, he develops an expression that particularly focuses on the "quiet" side of his work. Released on September 5, 2025, on cassette and digitally by Khotin Industries, "View" is the third album under the Area 3 name, a compact yet dense work consisting of six tracks. Throughout the album, softly wavering synth layers, a humid, field-record-like texture, and understated yet uniquely colored electronic sounds blend together, creating an ambient/new age-leaning soundscape where melodies and beats do not come to the forefront, but rather a quiet, shifting landscape. A major characteristic of this work is its structure, which intentionally distances itself from the dance music approach and rhythmic drive seen under the Khotin name, and instead focuses on a visual, tranquil, and abstract atmosphere. Each track progresses by gently shifting scenes like a short film, and although fragmented, the album as a whole continuously paints a single inner landscape. Rather than actively following a story, the listener is led to an experience where they surrender to the sound and discover different "scenes" at each moment. The mastering was handled by Nik Kozub, an engineer also based in Edmonton. The album has steadily gained recognition as a cassette release, mainly in independent shops overseas, and has also been selected by record stores in Japan, establishing a strong presence as a physical work. This Japanese CD edition includes the original six tracks plus bonus tracks unique to Japan. It is a newly compiled edition that combines the "archival quality" and "ease of long-term listening" that could not be obtained from the cassette version.
