Indonesian-American experimental pop artist Melati Malay, also known as a member of Asa Tone, will release her debut album "hipernatural" under the name Melati ESP on April 28, 2023, via Carpark Records. Melati ESP aka Melati Malay's music is a blissful fusion of metropolitan rhythms and rainforest escapes, club breaks and zero-gravity pop, painting new dreams from the sounds of the past and future: "hipernatural". It is based on her teenage musical experiences growing up in Jakarta, including Javanese radio station Radio Dangdut playing Indonesian popular music dangdut, gamelan cassettes, liquid jungle from the Moving Shadow era, and Japanese chillout. Including his recent work with the progressive percussion trio Asa Tone, Malay's solo debut is boldly borderless, bridging the world and creating an imaginative, hybrid synthetic utopia. Co-produced with longtime collaborator Kaazi, the 12-track album is sprinkled with tactile fragments of temple bass music, cyber siren techno, Stereolab, drum and bass, new age downtempo, dial-up rave fantasies, otherworldly conversations, computer hum, and bubbling water, resulting in a diverse and eclectic yet cohesive work that draws the listener into a comfortable and stimulating world.
