Contents Introduction A definitive collection of two new albums + ?? from Chris A. Cummings aka Marker Sterling, the mellow pop maestro from Toronto, known as "the Robert Wyatt who sings free soul," featuring collaborations with The High Llamas & Stereolab and his complete solo work. Armed with a musicality that skillfully incorporates soul, AOR, soft rock, Brazilian music, etc., and a soft singing voice often described as a reincarnation of Robert Wyatt, Chris A. Cummings continues to weave masterpieces. This first domestic release since his 2018 Japan tour is a superb collection of two original albums with remarkably different characteristics, making it an ideal introduction to Marker Sterling. *Disc 1, "High January," was produced in the UK with Sean O'Hagan (The High Llamas) as producer and Andy Ramsey (Stereolab) as engineer. The decision to deliberately omit O'Hagan's signature strings and horns, instead using his European backing band to pursue a combo sound, was a brilliant move. This is the most upbeat album of her career, a sweet and groovy release that's also recommended for city pop fans. It features guest appearances from her close friends Laetitia Sadi?re (Stereolab) and Nicolas Kergovich. *In contrast, Disc 2, "Trust an Amateur," recorded and mixed in Berlin and mastered in Moscow, is a complete "solo" album reminiscent of his Mantler-era works and the renowned cover album "I'm Willing," featuring electric piano (Wurlitzer) and rhythm box accompaniment. This album, the epitome of mellow and tender, also has no filler tracks. It was originally released overseas in November 2018. *Furthermore, Disc 1 includes four superb studio live tracks from last year's BBC "Marc Riley Sessions," and Disc 2 includes "The Muses Are Heard," produced in the same sessions as "Trust an Amateur" and released as the A-side of a limited edition 7" in 2019, for a total of five additional tracks. It's practically a deluxe edition. Media reviews and more: A collaboration between the mellow-pop maestro from Toronto High Llamas & Stereolab, known as , and a complete solo = A definitive package containing two of his latest albums + extras. This is an excellent introduction to Marker Sterling, featuring two original albums with remarkably different styles. (C)RS
