Vocalist Jonne J?rvela, who still serves as the face of the band, formed the predecessor unit, Shamaani Duo, in 1993. In 1996, they made their album debut with 'Hunka Lunka'. This work was a folk music piece with no metal elements whatsoever, primarily featuring acoustic guitar, keyboards, percussion, and vocals called yoik. The following year, 1997, Shamaani Duo added a bassist and drummer, transforming into the band Shaman. The 1999 album "Idja" featured heavy guitars and began to show metal influences. The shift towards metal accelerated after Jonne's guest appearance on a Finntroll album. In 2003, they incorporated violin, accordion, and flute, and switched vocal styles from folk-inspired to more metal. This is when the Korpiklaani we know today was born. That same year, they signed with Austrian label Napalm Records and released their debut album under the name Korpiklaani, "Spirit of the Forest." They quickly became one of Finland's leading metal bands. After releasing four albums on Napalm?"Voice of Wilderness" (2005), "Tales Along This Road" (2006), and "Tervaskanto" (2007)?they moved to Nuclear Blast Records, one of the top metal labels, solidifying their popularity. And now, they are releasing their 12th studio album, "Korpiklaani: A Journey of Learning from the Past and Creating the New." Regarding this album, which features Olli V?nsk?, the violinist from the Finnish folk-metal band Turisas, as a new member, Jonne says: "When we started making this album, we had a goal in mind. Our recent albums, especially 'Korpiklaani's Solo Journey in the North' from 2018, were a bit slow overall, so this time we wanted a faster-paced album, like the old Korpiklaani."
