Epica is a hugely popular symphonic metal band that the Netherlands is proud of. Sahara Dust was a project started in 2002 by Mark Jansen after he left After Forever. The history of Epica began when Simone Simons, who would later become their lead vocalist, joined the band. Their symphonic, catchy, and heavy debut album, "The Phantom Agony," became a big hit, and Epica quickly became a popular band. Beginning with their 2004 live album "We Will Take You With Us," they continued to release a string of symphonic and gorgeous albums overflowing with originality and a unique worldview, including "Consign to Oblivion" (2005), "The Score: An Epic Journey" (2005: soundtrack), "The Road to Paradiso" (2006), "The Divine Conspiracy" (2007), "Design Your Universe" (2009), "Requiem for the Independent" (2012), "The Quantum Enigma" (2014), "The Holographic Principle" (2016), and "Omega" (2021), solidifying their popularity. Now, their 2005 release, "The Score: An Epic Journey," is being reissued. Originally released in 2005 by the local Dutch label Transmission Records, this album had long been difficult to obtain due to the label's closure. Now, it's finally being reissued through Nuclear Blast Records, which is fantastic news. This album, created as the soundtrack for the film *Joyride*, differs in style from typical Epica albums. A symphonic style, typical of film music, dominates throughout, with less emphasis on heavy guitar, vocals, and drums. While an unusual album for Epica, it's perfect for understanding the symphonic leanings of Mark Jansen (G) and Koon Jansen (Key).
