Max Cavalera was the frontman of Sepultura, one of Brazil's leading metal bands. After leaving Sepultura in 1997, he formed the band Soulfly. They debuted in 1998 with their self-titled album. Soulfly's music, which further refines the style they pursued during their time with Sepultura?a fusion of heavy metal, hardcore punk, and world music from Brazil and other countries?has received a great response. Their second album, 'Primitive', released in 2000, even reached number 32 on the Billboard charts. Since then, Soulfly has captivated many fans with primitive and heavy albums that question the very essence of music, despite going through various lineups. Now, they are releasing a new album, "Totem," after a four-year hiatus. This time, it's a trio. Max is, of course, on guitar and vocals. On drums is the familiar Max's son, Zion Cavalera. And on bass is Mike Leon, as on the previous album. On the other hand, Marc Rizzo, who has been Soulfly's guitarist for many years, is not participating. The jams for "Totem" began when Zion asked Max one day, "How were the early Sepultura masterpieces written?"
