This is truly a Testament album for Testament fans. Testament is a band that represents the Bay Area thrash scene. Because their debut album, "Legacy," was released in '87, they are strongly associated with the post-"Master of Puppets" era, but they were formed in '83. In other words, they are a band that belongs to the first generation, having been active since the early days of thrash. Their name at the time of formation was Legacy. The vocalist was, as you all know, Steve "Zetro" Souza. However, in '86, an incident occurred in which Zetro was recruited by Exodus. After welcoming Chuck Billy as their new vocalist and recording their debut album, they faced another problem. A jazz band had trademarked the name "Legacy," forcing them to change their name. It was Billy Milano, known as the vocalist for S.O.D., who suggested the name "Testament." However, they had a tailwind that blew away such problems. With "Master of Puppets" ranking high on the Billboard charts, thrash metal bands from San Francisco, Metallica's hometown, were attracting a lot of attention. Naturally, Testament was no exception. Their debut album, "Legacy," was released on a major label right away. They continued their rapid progress with "The New Order" (1988), "Practice What You Preach" (1989), and "Souls of Black" (1990). Even during the dark ages of heavy metal in the 1990s, Testament chose to move forward rather than disband. In 2001, Chuck Billy suffered the misfortune of contracting a rare type of cancer, but he overcame it with indomitable spirit. After signing with Nuclear Blast Records, Europe's largest label, they released high-quality works such as "The Formation of Damnation" (2008), "Dark Roots of Earth" (2012), and "Brotherhood of the Snake" (2016), and continue to hold their position as a leading figure in the Bay Area thrash scene. And now, four years after their last album, their long-awaited new album is being released. Titled "Titans of Creation," this album is, according to guitarist Eric Peterson, "old-school thrash." There is no Testament fan who would not be thrilled by this. The harmonies, which Eric says are "Mercyful Fate-like," also add to the powerful album. Heavy, fast, and at times catchy. This is a Testament album that you can listen to with peace of mind, in a good way, for Testament fans and thrash fans alike. The artwork is by Eliran Kantor and the mixing is by Andy Sneap, the usual lineup backing the band.
