Synopsis: The burning dark flames of Nordic melodic doom metal continue. As the fourth chapter of the dark gospel begins, Jenny Ann Smith's female vocals pierce the night sky. Started in 2012 as a project by Leif Edling of Candlemass, the band became a rising star in doom metal with their first album, "Avatarium" (2013). Although Leif withdrew from live performances due to health reasons, the band has continued to thrive, centered around Jenny Ann Smith's female vocals and Marcus Idell's thick guitar riffs. Building on the momentum of the successes of "The Girl with the Raven Mask" (2015) and "Hurricanes and Halos" (2017), their fourth album, "The Fire Eye Long For," shifts the doom rock roots of early Black Sabbath towards a modern metal direction, maintaining a musical style that is elevated by melancholic melodies. From the lead track "Rubicon" onwards, the album continues with numbers that hint at a destiny from which there is no turning back. In tracks like "Porcelain Skull" and "Epitaph of Heroes," Marcus awakens as a new generation doom riff master, while "Shake That Demon" is an upbeat, relentless track. Tracks like "Lay Me Down," "Great Beyond," and "Stars They Move," featuring Jenny's vocals backed by piano, showcase an increased lyrical element, while the melancholic epic doom of "The Fire Eye Long For" declares the band's arrival at a new, sublime level. Marcus has cited Rainbow, Led Zeppelin, and The Doors as influences for this album, and while the music pays homage to these great predecessors, it is also brimming with the ambition to present a new era of doom metal. Leif Edling contributed to the songwriting of three tracks, and Andreas "Habo" Johansson of Leif's Doomsday Kingdom joins as the new drummer. Meanwhile, Marcus produced Candlemass's latest album, "The Door to Doom," making this a work that demonstrates the unity of the Scandinavian doom family. The album was recorded at Studio Deepwell in Stockholm. Marcus himself produced the album, with Grammy Award-winning Niklas Fricht mixing (for Britney Spears' "Toxic") and mastering by Svante F?rsbach, known for his work with Rammstein and Volbeat, bringing together world-class production staff. It has been announced that they will be touring in earnest, starting with shows in Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden, in January 2020. Avatarium will transport the world into the pitch-black realm of doom metal in 2020.
