Nile, a death metal band from South Carolina, was formed in 1993 around Carl Sanders (guitar/vocals/keyboards), the only remaining original member. After releasing two demos and an EP, they signed with Relapse Records. In 1998, they made their album debut with "Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka". They have built a unique style with highly technical songs and, as their band name "Nile" suggests, a strong inclination towards Middle Eastern culture, particularly Egypt, which has caused a great sensation in the extreme metal scene. Incorporating Middle Eastern instruments and melodies is rather commonplace in the world of rock, but Nile is an exception. Carl not only plays folk instruments such as the bouzouki himself, but his knowledge of ancient Egypt is also expert-level. His songs and lyrics, backed by solid knowledge, make Nile's music feel real. They continued to release albums, their second album "Black Seeds of Vengeance" in 2000, their third album "In Their Darkened Shrines" in 2002, and their fourth album "Annihilation of the Wicked" in 2005, but Nile is a band that changes members frequently. All four of these albums have had different lineups. After that, they signed with Nuclear Blast Records, one of the biggest labels in the extreme metal scene in Germany, and released four studio albums: "Ithyphallic" (2007), "Those Whom the Gods Detest" (2009), "At the Gate of Sethu" (2012), and "What Should Not Be Unearthed" (2015). Nile has visited Japan five times, including an appearance at Loud Park in 2007, so there are likely many metal fans who have experienced their stage performances. Now, their ninth album, "Vile Nilotic Lights," is being released. This album, created with new member Brian Kingsland (guitar/vocals), is of course full Nile world. It is packed with brutal death metal. Technical, heavy, and at times exotic. The soundtrack feel of old horror movies also adds a unique atmosphere to the album.
