[Lyrics, translation, and commentary included] Emperor, the charismatic black metal band, is characterized by its thorough visual concept that pushes Satanism to the extreme and its dramatic symphonic sound based on extreme blast beats. The band was formed in '91, originating from the infamous Norwegian satanic cult, the Inner Circle. In '94, after completing their debut album, three members were arrested for crimes including assault, theft, murder, and arson, jeopardizing the band's survival. However, the sole remaining member, Ihsahn, rebuilt the band, dismissing the two who received prison sentences and adding new members. After Samos's relatively light sentence was released, their second album was released in '97. After that, the band continued to perform steadily despite some member changes, releasing their third album in '99. Then, in '01, they announced their disbandment and released their final full-length album. Following Emperor's breakup, Ihsahn began a full-fledged solo career. In '06, he changed the band name to Ihsahn, his name from his Emperor days, and released his debut album "THE ADVERSARY" on his own label, MNEMOSYNE. In '08, he released his second album "ANGL," which garnered attention for featuring Mikael ?kerfeldt of Opeth as a guest.
