Content Introduction Telefon Tel Aviv, who led the electronica scene in the 2000s with their overwhelming sense of style and continue to gain recognition today, and who shocked audiences with their updated sound at their 2017 Japan tour (the Tokyo show was sold out), have completed their fourth album overall and first album as a solo act by Josh Eustis in 2019, marking their 20th anniversary! They released "Fahrenheit Fair Enough" and "Map Of Effortless" on the now-defunct prestigious Hefty label, becoming a leading figure in US electronica, and in 2009 released their third album, "Immolate Yourself," on BpitchControl, a label run by Berlin DJ/producer Ellen Allien. However, shortly after that, Charles Cooper suddenly passed away. Josh Eustis, now a solo act, ceased activities as Telefon Tel Aviv. Since then, he has been active in a wide range of fields, from mainstream to underground, including supporting live performances by Nine Inch Nails and Puscifer, working on solo projects such as Sons of Magdalene, the unit Second Woman with Turk Dietrich of Belong, and participating in works by Vatican Shadow, Drab Majesty, and Tropic. After these activities, in 2016 Joshua finally relaunched Telefon Telefon Aviv as a solo act. Their first album, which had been out of print, was reissued by Ghostly. In 2017, in addition to the reissue of their second album, they also performed new songs for the first time in about eight years, and in September of the same year, they made their second visit to Japan in about 11 years, performing their first headline show in the country, with the Tokyo show selling out. Their pitch-black, shocking performance shook the audience. Then, in 2019, the 20th anniversary of their activities, they finally completed their fourth album, "Dreams Are Not Enough," their first in 10 years and their first as a solo act. While certainly an extension of their previous works, this album showcases an upgraded style honed over 10 years of experience. The album tells a story of loss, anger, and aging, with Telefon Tel Aviv's signature hyper-modern sound design and smoky, night-inspired emotions appearing even more vivid. About the Artist: Formed in 1999 in New Orleans, USA, by Charles Cooper and Joshua Eustis, who met through high school friends. At the time, the two were in separate bands, with Charles playing punk and Joshua playing industrial music. Before releasing their first album, they gained attention for their participation in the remix album of Nine Inch Nails' "The Fragile," titled "Things Falling Apart." They subsequently signed with Chicago's Hefty Records. They also moved their base to Chicago and released their first album, "Fahrenheit Fair Enough," in 2001. The following year, 2002, they released the EP "Immediate Action #8," featuring Lindsay Anderson of L'altra as a guest vocalist. In 2004, they continued to feature Lindsay and Damon Aaron of Build An Ark, releasing their second album, "Map Of What Is Effortless," which was primarily vocal-driven. In 2007, they released "Remixes Compiled," a compilation of remixes, and in 2009, they released their third album, "Immolate Yourself," on January 20th through BpitchControl, a label run by Berlin-based DJ/producer Ellen Allien. However, on January 27th, they revealed on Myspace that Charles Cooper had passed away on January 22nd. Afterwards, Joshua, now a solo artist, was active as a tour member for Nine Inch Nails, and in his solo project Sons of Magdalene, but in 2016 he relaunched as Telefon Telefon Aviv. That same year, his first album was reissued by Ghostly International / PLANCHA with added archival tracks to commemorate its 15th anniversary. In May 2017, he unveiled new music for the first time in eight years, and his second album was also reissued with previously unreleased Ryuichi Sakamoto remixes. In September of the same year, he made his second visit to Japan in approximately 11 years, performing his first headline shows in the country, with the Tokyo show selling out. His shocking performance shook the audience. And in 2019, marking his 20th anniversary, he finally completed his fourth album, "Dreams Are Not Enough," his first since becoming a solo artist, and his first album in 10 years.
