Everything But the Girl (EBTG) was formed in 1982 by singer-songwriter and musician Tracey Thorne and Ben Watt. Their first studio album, "Eden," is now being released in a definitive, newly remastered edition in a UHQCD paper sleeve, featuring extra tracks including demos and live recordings. Released in 1984, their debut album "Eden," produced by Robin Miller (Sade, Pale Fountains, etc.), featured Simon Booth of The Weeknd on second guitar, Charles Hayward of This Heat on drums, and other top-tier horn players representing the British jazz scene. Released on Blanco y Negro, a new label under Warner Bros. co-founded by Mike Allway and Rough Trade founder Jeff Travis, it marked their transition from indie to major label. The single "Each & Everyone" reached the UK Top 30 and sold over 500,000 copies worldwide. Ben's meticulous and delicate playing, incorporating elements of jazz and bossa nova, is combined with Tracy's beautiful yet melancholic vocals to create a three-dimensional harmony. In addition to the demo version of the song, this release includes rare tracks that were originally on the A and B sides of the single, such as "Never Could Have Bin Worth" with its Johnny Marr-esque guitar work, and a cover of Paul Weller's "English Rose," which would later invite the duo to guest on Style Council albums, making its first appearance on a Japanese release.
