Clearlight is a solo project and progressive rock band formed in France in 1973, centered around the talented pianist and composer Cyril Verdot. Having received an academic musical education from a young age, he joined the rock band "BABYLON" in 1971, marking the beginning of his serious career in the rock world. Each album features various guest musicians, showcasing his strengths in lyrical phrases, classical/symphonic developments, and electronic sounds, demonstrating a wide range of musical styles. He continues to enjoy strong support from dedicated progressive rock followers. Now, Clearlight's four early albums from the 1970s and their latest album from 2014 are making their debut in a new, Japan-exclusive UHQCD/paper jacket edition! This particular release, from 2014, was created to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the completion of their first album in 1974. The album features the return of Steve Hillage (guitar), Tim Blake (keyboards), and Didier Malherbe (tenor saxophone), members of the French progressive/psychedelic rock band Gong, who also participated in the previous album. This ambitious work was completed with recordings received from members living far away and mixed by Verdot himself. The album is themed around the works of Impressionist painters such as Monet, Van Gogh, and Gauguin, and offers a glimpse into the sound and direction of early Clearlight, resulting in a superb symphonic rock album full of spacey and psychedelic elements.
