Their early works, released on the experimental emerging label [RVNG], attracted attention for their sound production where electronics and ambient drones intersected. Subsequently, Bing & Ruth, the amorphous chamber sound ensemble project centered around Brooklyn, New York pianist and composer David Moore, who signed with [4AD], has released their latest work, 'Species'. Their previous work, 'No Home of the Mind', which received high praise, including ranking 11th in Rolling Stone magazine's "Top 20 Avant-Garde Albums of 2017", showcased exquisite minimal music that blended influences from Nils Frahm, Goldmund, and Tim Hecker. This album, their first in three years, fully explores the sound of the Farfisa organ and was recorded at Sonic Ranch Studio, located in the desert and pecan fields of West Texas, with original members Jeff Ratner (bass) and Jeremy Viner (clarinet). During composition, they intentionally placed themselves in a place completely different from their usual lives, deliberately losing their sense of direction, scale, and time, and reflected the resulting isolation in the sound. The warm electronics of the never-ending organ meet the repetitive electronic sounds, creating a mystical atmosphere that evokes the magnificent desert horizon and setting sun depicted on the album cover. The Japanese CD edition includes liner notes and bonus tracks.
