Belle and Sebastian, the Glasgow band that continues to captivate music fans worldwide with many high-quality pop music works, releases the soundtrack for the film "Days of the Bagnold Summer" from Matador! The film, scheduled for release in 2020, is based on the graphic novel of the same name by novelist Geoff Winterhart, and stars actress Monica Dolan ("Eye in the Sky," "Pride"), who has won the BAFTA Television Award for Best Supporting Actress, and Earl Cave ("The End of the F***ing World"), son of Nick Cave. It is the directorial debut of British actor and comedian Simon Byrd, and tells a moving story that keenly observes and depicts the process of growing up. This album features 11 new songs by Belle and Sebastian, including a re-recorded version of the classic "Get Me Away From Here I'm Dying" from their 1996 album "If You're Feeling Sinister," and "I Know Where The Summer Goes" from their 1998 EP "This Is Just a Modern Rock Song." The funk, soul, and psychedelic elements expressed in their 2018 trilogy "How To Solve Our Human Problems" have been significantly transformed into a gentler, more acoustic sound. The narrative-driven Belle & Sebastian sound perfectly matches the film, making this not just film music, but a genuine new work that showcases a new side of the band. The album features a variety of original pop sounds, including the lead track "Sister Buddha," which serves as a loose theme at the beginning and end of the album; "Jill Pole," an instrumental piece where harmonica and violin flow lightly like a waltz, creating a sense of melancholy and expansiveness; and "We Were Never Glorious," which has a Baroque feel with the use of sad clarinet sounds and excerpts from dialogue in the film. The Japanese CD version will include bonus tracks and will be released with liner notes and lyric translations.
