Daughter is a London-based band that carries on the legacy of [4AD], a popular label known for its decadent worldview and the aesthetic and ethereal soundscapes built by bands like Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil. Having established a solid reputation and established status with the massive success of their debut album "If You Leave" (2013) and second album "Not To Disappear" (2016), and with their recent release of the game music album "Music From Before The Storm" at RSD2018 selling out instantly, the band has gained immense support, especially among indie fans, here in Japan. Now, Elena Tonra, the band's vocalist and sole female frontwoman, is releasing her solo debut album under the name Ex Ray! This album features contributions from 4AD's in-house engineer and producer Fabian Prin and composer Josephine Stevenson, who previously worked on arrangements for Daughter's albums, on cello and some vocals. The album contains a collection of superb tracks with a symphonic sound production that feels like you're in a dream, where clear, dry vocals and organic melodies from guitar, piano, and cello beautifully resonate together. The project name, Ex-Ray, is a combination of "Regarding ex" and "X-Ray," reflecting the idea of ??what truly lies within. This is a very personal album, filled with both a sense of urgency and a need for catharsis. The Japanese CD release includes bonus tracks, liner notes, and a translation of the lyrics.
