Formed in the early 2000s, centered around Lizzie Bougazzos, Brian DeGraw, and Josh Diamond, Gang Gang Dance is a cutting-edge musical group that shattered the boundaries between music and art and stood out in New York in the early 2000s, a time when many talents that would later grow into headliner acts such as Animal Collective, LCD Soundsystem, and Battles were produced. Now, after seven years of silence, they have restarted and released their latest work on 4AD. Their early works were highly acclaimed within the then-burgeoning experimental music scene in New York, and on August 8, 2008, they were entrusted with leading Boredoms' 88 Boadrum. Immediately afterward, their masterpiece "Saint Dymphna" (2008) was released, propelling them beyond the realm of a cult band and making them a central figure in the scene alongside their close friends Animal Collective. This album was completed after several recording sessions in New York studios and art spaces, with the help of Ryan Sawyer, whom they met at Boardrum and who also briefly played drums for At the Drive-In, and Jorge Erbrecht, known for his collaborations with Ariel Pink and who handled some of the production and mixing for this album. Bringing together a wide range of rhythms and styles from post-rock to electronica, industrial, shoegaze, psychedelia, and experimental, and combined with Lizzie Bougatzos's shamanic vocals, this unique musical style invites listeners into a vivid, tribal otherworld, and has been further refined over seven years to reach the next level. The domestic CD release includes the bonus track "Siamese Locust," liner notes, and lyric translations, while the first limited pressing of the imported LP will be released on red vinyl.
