Persefone is a rare progressive extreme metal band from the Principality of Andorra, located in the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain. Their formation dates back to 2001. They made their album debut in 2004 with "Truth Inside the Shades." Their subsequent second album, "Core" (2006), and third album, "Shin-ken" (2009), were released under the leadership of Japanese labels. The title of the third album is, of course, the Japanese word for "serious sword," and its concept was based on the Miyamoto Musashi film. And so, their progressive, melodic, and extreme style, a mix of Dream Theater and Children of Bodom, gained immense popularity here in Japan. They continued to consistently release high-quality works, and in 2022, they secured a contract with Austrian major label Napalm Records. Now, their debut album with Napalm, "Metanoia," is finally being released here in Japan. "Metanoia" is truly phenomenal. Technical guitar riffs and intricate song structures are densely interwoven with progressive, cinematic arrangements. The build-up in the middle of the album is extraordinary. The grandeur of the final 15-minute suite is simply breathtaking. After listening, you'll feel as if you've just watched a one-hour epic film.
