The vocalist/guitarist is Janne Kristofferson, also known for his work with Spiritual Beggars! Grand Magus is a Swedish heavy metal band. Their formation dates back to 1996. Initially called Smack, they changed their name to Grand Magus in 1999. In 2001, they released a split EP with Spiritual Beggars, led by Michael Amott. In the same year, they released their self-titled debut album on Lee Dorrian's Rise Above Records. From 2002 onwards, with frontman Janne Kristofferson joining Spiritual Beggars as a vocalist, Grand Magus's name spread throughout the world. After releasing three albums on Rise Above?'Monument' (2003), 'Wolf's Return' (2005), and 'Iron Will' (2008)?Grand Magus signed with major label Roadrunner Records. In 2010, they released their fifth album, 'Hammer of the North'. Following that, they moved to another major label, Nuclear Blast Records, and have since released high-quality heavy metal works such as 'The Hunt' (2012), 'Triumph and Power' (2014), 'Sword Songs' (2016), and 'Wolf God' (2019). Now, Grand Magus is releasing a new album after a five-year hiatus. Titled 'Sunraven', this is the band's first concept album, inspired by the epic poem 'Beowulf'. Inspired by Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Manowar, and Viking-era Bathory, they naturally remain true to their roots with this album as well. This album is heavy and epic, sticking to old-school heavy metal. It's orthodox, yet its scale is extraordinary.
