Product Description
Contents: This is a collection of live recordings from an April 1982 performance in Strasbourg, France, by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, the legendary jazz band led by Art Blakey, a representative drummer of modern jazz. This release features previously unreleased tracks extracted from the original master tapes carefully preserved by the Blakey family. Mastered at Gearbox's all-tube, futuristic analog studio in London, it comes in a double gatefold CD format. This is the oldest full-length live recording of the Blanchard/Harrison lineup of the Messengers, a combination that defined the band for several years and became a driving force that propelled the Young Lions movement from mere revivalism to a more profound realm. At 62, Blakey never became mellow with age; rather, he became even more devoted to his mission. "You go to school to get your diploma," he once said. "You're coming with me to get an education." Strasbourg '82 is education in progress itself. A raw, unfiltered record of the very moment when the university was being rebuilt. Tracklist 1. Little Man 2. Along Came Betty 3. Fuller Love 4.
