From the vibrant scene of female singer-songwriters in Europe and America, another incredibly talented woman has emerged. Maury, originally from Minneapolis, USA, is a solo project by Katie Maury, who also works as a visual artist in addition to her music. This album, "Till Start Speaking," is her first full-length album since she began her career in the 2010s. During her time in Minneapolis, she was also a member of Gaings, a unit centered around Ryan Olson, who also produced for Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and Brad Cook (famous for producing Bon Iver and Waxahatchy). She also contributed vocals to the album "Relayed," released in 2010 by the popular label Jagjaguwar. There's an anecdote about her encountering Prince, who happened to be at the Gaings during a live performance there. Afterward, she self-taught herself to create her own music, mastering production techniques. In 2015, she released "In Defense of My Muse EP," an experimental EP incorporating noise, reminiscent of her rapport with Laurie Anderson. In 2016, she released "Something More Holy EP," which was featured prominently in the American magazine "Interview." Around 2014, she left Minneapolis and moved to LA, and then to London. After releasing several singles around 2017, she finally delivered her first album. From gospel-style songs based on piano and vocals to dreamy orchestral pop and ambient-style arrangements subtly incorporating electronic elements, this is a superb debut album with an organic and intelligent finish.
