Jasmine Myra has garnered attention in the creative Leeds music scene and was discovered by Matthew Halsall, the leader of GONDWANA. Her meditative and uplifting modal works, "Horizons" (2022) and "Rising" (2024), were highly praised by Giles Peterson and others in the music scene. This new album is entirely self-produced and composed by Jasmine Myra, and explores the duality of nature and life's beauty, as well as disappointment and bittersweetness. More than her previous works, she prioritizes the overall ensemble sound, delicately placing the timbre of each instrument. The ephemeral melodies of strings, piano, flute, harp, and vibraphone beautifully float around the saxophone, expanding and then converging. Originally influenced by soundtracks by Dustin O'Halloran and Wes Anderson, this album has an extremely cinematic and wavering ambient texture. Furthermore, this album is heavily influenced by contemporary folk elements, including the music of Aluzi Aftab, Alabaster DePlume (ts), Fergus McCready (p), and Matt Carmichael (ts), representing a promising new generation of Scottish jazz, as well as Flyte. The recording took place in a Leeds studio, with all participating musicians gathered in the same room. The result is a wonderful performance where everyone's energy and emotions are perfectly synchronized. The conductor is Ozzy Moysey, a fellow member of the Leeds jazz scene and labelmate, and the central figure of the Ancient Infinity Orchestra. Matt Carmichael (ts) also participates on one track, delivering a nostalgic performance. This is a masterpiece album overflowing with warm energy, which could be described as a folky chamber jazz ensemble. This album was co-produced by Matthew Halsall and Jasmine Myra. The recording was handled by Tom Aurel, who has worked with the Ancient Infinity Orchestra, and the mixing was handled by Greg Freeman, who, following his work on the previous album "Rising," has worked with Hanya Rani, Matthew Halsall, Portico Quartet, and others.
