His own solo album, "So Many Me," heavily incorporates Middle Eastern and North African percussion, and more recently, he has been involved in a wide range of activities, including the release of Natalie Kressman & Ian Fakini, which fuses Brazilian music and jazz, producing Indian female singer Valijashree Venugopal, and producing Cuban pianist Harold L?pez Nussa's Blue Note debut. Michael League, with the concept of "a future of folklore with one foot in tradition and one foot deeply in the future," has formed a new group with Cuban "genius" percussionist and vocalist Pedrito Martinez, who also participated in Jos? James's "1978," and Antonio Sanchez, a four-time Grammy Award winner and one of the most popular contemporary jazz drummers. Pedrito Martinez is an innovative artist who, while carrying the traditions of Afro-Cuban music, has worked in various places with Steve Coleman, Wynton Marsalis, Yerba Buena, and others, and is even said to have changed the rhythm of New York. Antonio Sanchez is a key figure in the contemporary jazz scene, having gained worldwide fame as the drummer for the Pat Metheny Group for about 20 years, and for his score for the movie "Birdman," among others. The three lived in New York at the same time, and their relationship has continued for a long time, with Pedrito participating as a sideman in other artists' projects and Antonio performing at the GroundUp Music Festival in 2017 and 2022, respectively. About seven years ago, Antonio suggested the idea of ??forming a group, and it finally took shape. For this album, Pedrito and Antonio first improvised the initial rhythms in a New York studio, then they had a session at Michael's studio in Spain, and finally Michael wrote the songs to finish them based on those sessions. The sound is a high-level fusion of virtuoso live instruments and electronics. The groove is wonderful, born from Afro-Cuban and jazz & pop, weight and lightness, pleasurable percussion and dazzling Michael League-esque keyboard and bass sounds. All three frequently connect with other genres and explore new musical realms, creating a futuristic roots music that blends time and genre.
