With a long history of collaborations between the three, including solo albums and albums by other artists such as John Patitucci, they deliver a superb ensemble performance. The album title "Three Visitors" was chosen based on the idea that the world and territory in which people live are temporary, and that through art and music, one can similarly visit other temporary territories. These include specific places (such as Far Rockway) that evoke memories and emotions for the three members, but there is also an influence of mindstream-like Buddhist philosophy, suggesting that each composition may allow them to visit each other's hearts. While based on an ECM sound, influences from Brian Blade's "Kintsugi" and Edward Simon's "Nostalgia" can also be felt. Chris Potter (ts) and Becca Stevens (vo), who are also members of the SF Jazz Collective, participate as guests. The string quartet participating in the three tracks boasts a long career, including collaborations with Steve Reich and Pat Metheny, and is comprised of truly talented musicians from New York, such as Richard Rude (violin) and Elizabeth Lim Dutton (violin), as well as Sachi Patitucci, wife of John Patitucci and also known as a cellist.
